You can apply for asylum by:
Within three days from the date of the submitting asylum application, the Asylum Office shall issue to the Applicant an identity card for asylum seekers in a prescribed form.
A foreigner who has expressed the intention to seek asylum will receive a registration certificate and will be referred to an asylum center. He/she is obliged to report there within 72 hours from the issuance of the registration certificate.
If the Applicant possesses his/her own financial assets, he/she may stay outside the capacities of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migrations at his/her own cost, and exclusively with a prior consent of the Asylum Office, which shall be given after the asylum application has been submitted. Exceptionally, the consent may also be given before that, if that is required for reasons of security. If during the procedure he stays at a private address, outside the asylum center, the asylum seeker is entitled to social assistance.
A foreigner who has expressed the intention to seek asylum and has been registered will be referred to the Asylum Centre by the police officer. The Applicant is obliged to report there within 72 hours from the issuance of the registration certificate

The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration provides material reception conditions for the asylum seekers. This includes accommodation, food and clothing. Material reception conditions may be reduced or withdrawn if the Applicant possesses his/her own financial assets or if he/she starts to receive income from employment.
If you have permission from the Asylum Office to reside privately, you can apply for social assistance in the Center for social welfare in the municipality of your residence. You can get information on procedure and required documentation from your legal adviser or in a local center for social welfare.
A foreigner who has expressed his/her intention to seek asylum same as a foreigner who lodged an application has the right to be informed about his/her rights and obligations throughout the asylum procedure. He/she can obtain information on associations registered for provision of free legal aid and representation from Asylum Office staff, in the asylum center and by UNHCR.
All persons accommodated in asylum centers are obliged to pass a medical check upon reception.
During the stay in asylum centers, health protection is organized in local health center. In some centers there is an outpatient clinic of the local health center.
Asylum seekers residing in private accommodation are entitled for health protection in local health center with an ID issued by Asylum Office.
The right to education is a fundamental human right. In the Republic of Serbia, every child has a right to education in the same conditions as Serbian citizens. The educational system in Serbia consists of Early Childhood Education and Care, Primary Education, Secondary Education and Higher Education. Primary education and preparatory preschool programs are mandatory and free. Secondary education is free but not mandatory. Staff in the reception center will help you to enroll your children in school.

There is a possibility to provide you with VET during your stay in the asylum center through available projects implemented by some NGOs.

If the Asylum Office does not decide on a submitted application within nine months, the asylum seeker is entitled to a work permit in the Republic of Serbia.
